François Chaplin follows the training of the Franco Bulgarian pianist Ventsislav Yankoff at the CNSM in Paris, as well as the accompaniment and chamber music class with Jacqueline Robin, and obtains his first prizes for piano (1st named with congratulations) and chamber music.
He won the Mozart and Robert Casadesus prizes at the Cleveland International Competition in 1989. These distinctions marked the start of an active and brilliant international career. He is invited as a soloist all over the world (Tokyo, Berlin, Moscow, Saint Petersburg, Riga, Paris, Almaty, Mexico…) and by many orchestras, such as the National Orchestra of Lille, the Philharmonic Orchestra of Saint Petersburg, the Japan Philharmonic Orchestra, the Ensemble orchestral de Paris, the Orchester national de Lorraine, etc. He regularly takes part in many prestigious festivals such as those of La Roque-d’Anthéron, the Cervantino International Festival in Mexico, the Yokohama International Festival in Japan, La Folle Journée de Nantes, the Nohant-Chopin International Festival, Mozart in Sau, etc.
François Chaplin is also a guest at the Wigmore Hall in London, the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées in Paris, the Saint-Petersburg Philharmonic, the Art Gallery in Washington (USA), the Coliseo Theater and the CCK in Buenos Aires, etc.
His vast discography, acclaimed by the press (ffff Télérama, Diapason d’Or, Gramophone BBC, etc.), includes in particular recordings of the complete works of Debussy, 2 Mozart concertos, Schubert’s Impromptus, the latest klavierstücke by Brahms, the 21 Nocturnes, the 4 Ballades by Chopin and this year the complete 19 Waltzes by Chopin on the Aparté label, disc which received the high awards.
